Although it truly might not have been her smartest decision, it had been necessary: Taras needed to get out of his stall and preferably stretch his legs. So she had put a few simple fences in the outdoor arena, tacked up the perlino stallion, and secured her helmet. She was ready for a show - whether it were unexpected spectators interested in the new instructor and her golden horse, or Taras attempting to give a rodeo, she wasn't quite sure yet. She'd handle it when it came, though. That had always been her strong point.
Checking the girth and her stirrups on more time, she hoisted herself up on the horse. Although, hoisted... He was the smallest of her horses and it didn't take that much effort to get settled in the brown saddle. Fernie was quite a climb, standing at an impressive 17.1hh, but with his sixteen hands Tar was not that much of an issue. Sydney held the reins tight, though almost elastic as she gently nudged Taras' sides. With a wild shake of his head the perlino stepped away, staying in a fast, but steady walk. Carefully, Sydney allowed herself to relax. Tar had a tendency to be unpredictable, but she loved him nonetheless and she was thrilled that he -so far- behaved on his second day here.
Although she wasn't too worried about asserting her authority over the kids she'd be teaching, it would make things a bit more difficult if their first 'meeting' was one where Sydney failed miserably in controlling her horse, never mind that it was the most difficult horse she possessed. l, she thought so. Each of them had his or her own strengths or weaknesses, those of Tar just tended to be a bit more public.
Chuckling, she let her guard slip down a bit, enjoying the energetic stride the stallion had, the way his ears turned round and round curiously. Taking up the slack in the reins, Sydney asked for a bit more attention from the horse, who was looking at everything but where he was walking. Dressage wasn't his favorite part, but he could do it nicely if he wanted to. Which wasn't often, but she'd settle for decent today. Only after he was doing okay in that department would she take him over the low jumps - because she knew how much he enjoyed the jumping and the galloping, even if the latter only came during the cross.
