The atmosphere stood dead still, not daring to make a single shift. Riders held their breath while the judge deliberated their round. It was only a flat class; walk, trot, canter, reverse and repeat. Who knew that something so simple could take seemingly hours to announce the results. A horse somewhere down the lineup chomped on his bit in a nervous manner, but remained standing square like the rest. Then a voice came over the PA system, "And first place goes to..." First, second, third, and fourth were announced before your name was called. Fifth place. Last place. You sigh as you reach down to pat your horse all over and turn toward the gate to collect your last place ribbon.
"The color of the ribbon doesn't matter. I know we did our best. And all that matters is that we tried our best and reached our goal of working together." -Unknown
